After 25+ years of climbing the corporate ladder to an executive position within the commercial risk management, finance and insurance industry, I decided to pursue my first love and passion; Travel. I was inspired by Mark Twain’s sage advice of; “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bow lines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. EXPLORE. DREAM. DISCOVER". My passion for discovery, exploration and epicurean pursuits has lead my travel to Australia, New Zealand, Cuba, Dubai, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Monaco, Great Britain, Ireland, Canada, Central and South America, Mexico, a majority of the Caribbean Islands throughout the USA including Alaska. From my earliest memories as an Army Brat; I’ve loved travel and exploring the world. While I find landmarks, landscapes and monuments to be fascinating, my passion for travel lies in the authentic cultural immersion of the destination’s people, culture, food and history. Each itinerary I design and research for clients reflects their interests, expectations and travel style with an added measure of cultural immersion, whether it be a cooking lesson or meal in a private home; private tours at historical sites, artistic performances and/or wine tours. While I specialize in luxury travel, I also believe that luxury is personal and is determined by the desired experience of the traveler. I founded SmartBird World Travel in 2013, initially as a full-time, full-service home based travel agency franchise to connect people to one another, the world and to their idea of paradise. My client base grew exponentially through referrals and loyal clients. In 2019, I transitioned to an independent retail storefront located in Atlanta GA to add agents for general travel so I could remain focused on customizing the authentic and experiential travel I love. |
Through SB World Luxe Travel, the firm's luxury division, Debbie works with clients seeking Luxury, Ultra Luxury and Luxe-Adventure travel experiences through small ship ocean and river cruises, yacht charters, land vacations including safaris, culinary/wine tours , villas, and rail vacations. She curates and hosts SB World Luxe Voyages, the firm's exclusive travel group.

Top Travel Moment: Visiting the Acropolis and Parthenon in Athens, Greece. Perched high on a hilltop over the city, there it was. As we turned a corner, our driver casually mentioned "there it is" and I remember being stunned by its majesty. I couldn't imagine being able to live in a city passing by these treasures every day.
Climbing up the stairs to the Parthenon I was nervous and excited to be so close to such an important piece of ancient history. I couldn't believe the size of the columns and the details of the limestone carvings in the building. To actually touch its marble columns was breathtaking! Traveling is like flirting with life. Days after graduating college in my home state Minnesota, I embarked on a impromptu international adventure seeking more than textbook knowledge.
In 40 days & 40 nights I traveled 7 different countries and 9 different cities: Florence, Siena, Rome, Athens, Cairo, Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam, London in that order! It's safe to say the travel bug took hold & I will never seek a cure. This trip left me with more knowledge about myself & the world than I could ever had learned within a classroom. I was told my travels were just a "once in a lifetime experience", well I am not satisfied! I will continue romancing life, enjoying a lifetime of "once in a lifetime experiences". We all deserve to experience more of what this earth has to offer us. This is why my passion is crafting personalized adventures of a lifetime for others as well as myself. |

In Cuba, all of the fruits were so much smaller & sweeter than I had ever had before. You could tell they were the REAL deal. I ate Pina' Pizza every day (pineapple pizza).

I first fell in love with travel as a seventeen-year-old senior when I had the pleasure of receiving a trip to Bermuda as my graduation gift. The pink sand beaches, turquoise blue water, friendly people, intoxicating sun and pastel colored buildings struck me in the heart like Cupid's arrow. Since then, I have traveled throughout the US; my favorite cities being New York, Miami and Washington D.C.
Internationally I have landed in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Europe: specifically Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Jamaica, Barbados, Japan, China, Kenya and South Africa. Domestic and international travel gives the opportunity to be transported from one place to another while instantly being immersed in a totally different world. Because of this love, I have enjoyed sharing my passion of travel by leading students, family and friends on educational tours.

I fell in love with travel when I visited Rome, Italy. It’s one thing to study history and it’s another to experience it. To stand in Julius Caesar’s tomb and be where the Gladiators fought is an experience like no other. Travel puts me in a mindset of being a part of history. Experiencing local culture and indulging in local cuisine also forms a big part of my travels. Authentic flavors and spices are found in different areas of the world and is one of the major reasons why food is an important aspect of travel for me. My recent travels include a number of Caribbean islands, Europe including Italy, France, Spain, Monaco, Ireland, London, Vatican City. Several Central America countries and several states in Mexico including Sinaloa, Quintana Roo, and Baja California Sur. Travel for me is immersion into the history, culture, and cuisine of the local community and freedom to explore and learn on my own terms.
